A guided tour does not take place in a laboratory.
People move around.
They walk into buildings, move behind walls, spread out along a street, and sometimes get separated from the group for a moment.
So what happens if a tourist's smartphone temporarily loses communication with the local Wi-Fi network?
With Poly Speaker, the Listener app is designed to handle this situation automatically.
Poly Speaker uses the local Wi-Fi network created by the guide's pocket router.
If a tourist moves temporarily out of effective communication range, or encounters interference, their smartphone may lose communication with the tour.
That does not mean they have left the tour.
When communication with the local network is restored, PolySpeaker Listener is designed to automatically reconnect to the same tour.
The tourist does not need to search for the tour again or scan a new QR code.
If automatic reconnection does not occur as expected, the Listener app provides a RECONNECT button for manual reconnection.
This is important from the guide's perspective.
The guide does not have to stop the tour because one tourist temporarily lost communication.
The guide continues speaking normally through PolySpeaker Broadcast.
The Listener app handles the reconnection process for the tourist.
Listener also gives the tourist simple controls for their own listening experience.
AUDIO ON/OFF allows them to mute or restore the guide's audio.
LEAVE/JOIN allows them to leave the current tour or join another tour when appropriate.
These controls put the listening decision in the tourist's hands rather than making the guide manage individual receivers.
A good tour guide audio solution should not require the guide to think about the technology throughout the tour.
The guide speaks.
The tourists listen.
If a temporary communication problem occurs, Listener is designed to reconnect automatically when communication is restored.
That is the kind of technology I wanted Poly Speaker to provide: technology that helps the tour without becoming part of the tour.
